President Trump's longtime lawyer Michael Cohen on Friday distanced himself from Tom Arnold after the actor claimed that the pair would be spending the weekend "hanging out."

Cohen wrote in a tweet that while he appreciated Arnold's "kind words about me as a great father, husband and friend," the pair had what he characterized as "a chance, public encounter in the hotel lobby where he asked for a selfie."

"Not spending the weekend together, did not discuss being on his show nor did we discuss @POTUS," Cohen wrote, adding "done" and "ridiculous."

Cohen sent the tweet moments after Arnold gave a bizarre interview to CNN where he refused to answer specific questions about the longtime Trump attorney, instead sitting silently for several seconds.

"I'm spending the weekend hanging out with Michael Cohen and there's a lot going on," Arnold told CNN's Poppy Harlow.

"So, you've treated-you've disrespected him and his family and there's a lot going on," Arnold continued, appearing to be addressing Trump while looking directly into the camera.

The actor appeared on CNN hours after he said that he and Cohen were teaming up to "take down" the president.

Arnold tweeted a photo with Cohen on Thursday with the caption "I Love New York," which the president's lawyer later retweeted without comment.

The actor then told NBC News that he met with Cohen as part of a show he is working on for Vice, in which Arnold searches for incriminating videos of the president.

Cohen is currently being investigated in New York for a number of alleged financial crimes, including bank fraud.

Prosecutors have looked into the $130,000 payment that Cohen made to adult-film star Stormy Daniels, which was part of a nondisclosure agreement to keep her quiet about an alleged affair she says she had with Trump.

The president also said earlier this month that he is no longer being represented by Cohen and that he had not spoken to him in "a long time."
